Punjab’s first-ever CM Punjab Special Games 2025 began with a vibrant opening ceremony at Punjab Stadium. The event was inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Sohail Shaukat Butt, while Provincial Minister for Sports & Energy Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Provincial Minister for Communication & Works Sohaib Ahmad Bharath attended as special guests. A large number of provincial assembly members, parliamentary secretaries, distinguished guests, and citizens were also present.
Around 500 special athletes from public and private institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations across Punjab, are participating in nine different sports categories. The special athletes presented a unique and impressive march past. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, Naat, and the national anthem. Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt delivered welcome remarks and formally declared the Games open.
Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt stated that nearly 18,000 assistive devices, including wheelchairs, have been distributed among persons with disabilities across Punjab. One lakh (100,000) special persons are receiving a quarterly stipend of Rs. 10,500 through the Himat Card program. The Chief Minister has also announced the issuance of Himat Cards for 40,000 children in special education schools. He emphasized that special persons are an integral part of society and, although they were neglected in the past, the current government is committed to providing them equal opportunities.
Provincial Minister for Sports & Energy Faisal Ayub Khokhar said that the Department of Social Welfare has launched historic public welfare initiatives over the past eighteen months. He added that uplifting underprivileged segments of society is a top priority of the Punjab government. He reaffirmed that special athletes are highly talented, and the Sports Department will extend full financial and administrative support to encourage them.
 

Provincial Minister for Communication & Works Sohaib Ahmad Bharath stated that special children are very close to their hearts, and the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz along with her team sends heartfelt greetings to them. He said that special athletes have been blessed with remarkable abilities and their parents and teachers deserve appreciation. He highlighted that Punjab’s first state-of-the-art Autism School has been established under the direction of the Chief Minister.
During the ceremony, souvenirs were presented to Ministers Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Sohaib Bharath by the Social Welfare Department. The torchbearers’ march further energized the atmosphere in the stadium. Athletes took the oath, while recitations of Allama Iqbal’s poetry, national songs, cultural performances, and live musical acts added charm to the event.
The three-day competitions have formally begun at Punjab Stadium, featuring athletics, badminton, table tennis, football, basketball, pentathlon, tug of war, volleyball, boccia, and various other events. The passion and enthusiasm of special athletes remain inspiring.
