The President of the Global Sikh Council, S. Amritpal Singh Sachdeva, has expressed deep concern over a sensitive and significant Panthic issue. He stated that the Sikh community worldwide is currently facing a moment of confusion and emotional complexity. On one hand falls the martyrdom day of the younger Sahibzadas — one of the greatest and most unparalleled sacrifices in Sikh history — and on the other hand, the Parkash Purab of the Tenth Master, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, which is also observed on the same date this year. This situation has created uncertainty for the global Sikh sangat.
Sachdeva highlighted that the martyrdom days of the Sahibzadas are historically established Panthic observances whose dates cannot be subjected to debate or alteration. At the same time, the Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh Ji has traditionally been celebrated on 23 Poh according to Sikh Maryada. Due to this overlap, the global Sikh community feels the need for a clear, unified, and authoritative directive from the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, so that the Panth may observe these occasions with consensus and uniformity.
He further stressed that finding a permanent and unequivocal solution to this issue is essential not only for the present generation but also for future generations, ensuring that no confusion or division arises again.
The Global Sikh Council has appealed to all Sikh organizations, institutions, and scholars to come together and address this important Panthic matter collectively, and to reach a unified decision through broad Panthic consensus.
Sachdeva expressed full confidence that the guidance issued by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib will not only resolve the current confusion but will also strengthen unity, Panthic harmony, and collective adherence to Sikh Maryada across the global Sikh community — which, he said, would be the greatest victory for the Panth.
