Simranjit Singh Mann Urges India-Pak Trade Revival via Attari Border

Attari, Amritsar, March 28 Ali Imran Chattha

A large gathering was organized by Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) at the Attari-Wagah border today, where party officials, workers, and members of various religious organizations participated in significant numbers. The participants demanded the reopening of the border and the revival of trade between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, party president Simranjit Singh Mann stated that reopening the Attari-Wagah border and restoring trade would significantly improve the economic condition of farmers and laborers in Punjab. He added that this would strengthen the region economically and contribute to the country’s GDP.
He further said that they are standing at the border to call for peace and to prevent war, as any conflict would cause the greatest harm to the people of Punjab. He also suggested that economic cooperation could be enhanced through the import of LPG gas and cement via pipeline and the export of agricultural products like wheat, vegetables, and milk to Pakistan.
Simranjit Singh Mann also emphasized that easier access should be provided for Sikh pilgrims to visit religious sites in Pakistan, which would strengthen religious and cultural ties.
During the event, party workers marched toward the border and offered prayers near the frontier. However, security personnel from the Border Security Force and Punjab Police stopped them from proceeding further due to security concerns.
It is noteworthy that Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has been consistently demanding the reopening of the Attari-Wagah border and the resumption of trade and religious travel between India and Pakistan.
