Orientation Programme for New KP Assembly Members Begins in Murree

A three-day New Members Orientation Programme for the recently elected members of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) commenced today at the Ramada Hotel, Murree. The event has been jointly organized by the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in partnership with UN Women, with support from UNDP.
The programme, running from September 1 to 3, 2025, aims to equip legislators with essential knowledge and skills to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities. The opening session on September 2 will feature recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by welcome remarks from Mr. Asim Khan Goraya, Executive Director PIPS, Ms. Jacqui Ketunuti,
Deputy Country Representative UN Women, and Mr. Rana Kaiser Ishaque, Assistant Resident Representative UNDP. The programme overview will be presented by Ms. Samer Awais, Director General PIPS, while the Speaker of the KP Assembly is expected to deliver the keynote address. According to the agenda, participants will attend sessions covering the Constitution of Pakistan, legislative process, rules of procedure, and parliamentary oversight tools.
Special focus will be given to the role of women legislators in gender-responsive lawmaking, with an interactive session led by Hon. Ms. Naeema Kishwar, Member National Assembly.
On the final day, discussions will highlight the powers and functions of parliamentary committees, regarded as the “mini parliaments” within the assembly. The closing remarks will be delivered by Mr. Jamshed M. K
