Pakistan marked the historic 1500th anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) — falling on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1447 AH — with nationwide ceremonies imbued with devotion, illumination, and a renewed pledge to uphold his timeless teachings.
Nationwide Celebrations and Symbolism
The day began with a resounding display of national reverence: a 31-gun salute echoed through Islamabad, while 21-gun salutes were fired in provincial capitals to honor the blessed occasion . In homes, mosques, and public spaces, special prayers were offered for national prosperity, security, and the unity of the Muslim Ummah . Streets, mosques, markets, and high-rise buildings across the country were adorned with vibrant lights and green flags, and the atmosphere was filled with chants of Durood and Salaam .
Religious organizations, Milad committees, and madrassas arranged processions and gatherings reflecting strong public enthusiasm. In Karachi, for instance, a procession organized by Jamaat Ahle Sunnat proceeded through M.A. Jinnah Road toward Nishtar Park .
International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference & Ashra Rahmatul-lil-Alameen
The Ministry of Religious Affairs declared that from 1st to 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, the nation would observe Ashra Rahmatul-lil-Alameen — a ten-day spiritual commemoration culminating on this day . The highlight was the 50th International Seerat-un-Nabi Conference, held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on September 6, featuring religious scholars, diplomats, youth delegates, and invited dignitaries including the President and Prime Minister .
Themed "The Role of the State in Promoting Responsible Use of Social Media in Light of the Seerat of the Prophet (PBUH)", the conference underlined modern challenges faced by the youth and encouraged constructive digital engagement . Other nationwide events included a Mehfil-e-Naat, Quran & Seerat exhibitions, and awards honoring notable poets, researchers, and authors .
Parliamentary Endorsement and National Resolve
Both the National Assembly and the Senate passed unanimous resolutions recognizing 1447 AH as the Year of the Prophet’s 1500th Birth Anniversary, signaling a national commitment to internalize his teachings .
Voices of National Leadership
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the Prophet’s blessed birth nearly 1500 years ago in Makkah illuminated the world with guidance rooted in justice, mercy, equality, and unity. He emphasized that Pakistan and the Muslim world are observing this milestone as the “Year of Rahmatul-lil-Alameen”, with aspirations to embed the Prophet’s life as a model within the nation’s constitution, laws, and civic life . He urged the youth to connect with the Seerat-un-Nabi to navigate the complexities of the digital age wisely and compassionately .
President Asif Ali Zardari extended heartfelt greetings to the nation and the Muslim Ummah. He highlighted that completing the 1500th birth anniversary inspires the integration of universal principles—justice, mercy, brotherhood, and peace—into Pakistan’s social, political, and cultural structures. He reiterated that modern challenges like extremism, injustice, and disruptive digital trends can find solutions in the Prophet’s teachings
Security Arrangements and Public Services
Security was tightened across major cities to safeguard processions and events. In Karachi alone, 4,480 police officers were deployed, while Lahore and others also saw thousands on security duty . Devotees organized langars, distributed food and drinks, and created supportive environments for participants in processions and gatherings .
