Historic Gurdwara Chhatti Patshahi Reopens After 77 Years

First Prayers Held After Partition as Occupiers Evicted

Lahore (Ali Imran Chattha) In a landmark development, the historic and sacred Gurdwara Chhatti Patshahi in Lahore’s Qinchi Chungi Amarsadhu area witnessed religious prayers for the first time since the 1947 Partition of India.

Yesterday, members of the Sikh Sangat recited the path of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and held spiritual gatherings of Gurbani and Naam Simran. Prior to the prayers, local administration and police successfully evicted illegal occupants and handed over possession of the shrine to the Sikh community.

Eviction of Occupying Groups

Following the Partition, the Gurdwara had remained unoccupied and had fallen into the hands of various land mafia groups. Under the leadership of Dr. Gulab Singh, the local Sikh community, with full support from the district administration and police, liberated the sacred site from illegal occupation.
Dr. Gulab Singh expressed deep gratitude to Additional Secretary Shrines Naseer Mushtaq of the Evacuee Trust Property Board and Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, President of PSGPPC and Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights.
“It is because of their sincere and continuous efforts that this historic Gurdwara has been reclaimed and restored to the Sikh community,” he said.

The day marked an emotional and historic occasion as the Sikh Sangat offered prayers at the shrine after 77 years. The congregation reaffirmed its commitment to the Guru’s universal messages of selfless service (Seva), humanity, Naam Simran, and Gurbani.

Historical Significance

The site was blessed in 1619 by the sixth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. Maharaja Ranjit Singh later constructed the Gurdwara, while Sir Ganga Ram carried out its renovation and expansion in 1922. The shrine remains an important symbol of Sikh history and heritage in Pakistan.

Appeal for Restoration

Dr. Gulab Singh thanked Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her government’s efforts in restoring Gurdwaras and freeing them from illegal occupation. He appealed for the immediate renovation and full restoration of Gurdwara Chhatti Patshahi to its original glory so that future generations can benefit from this sacred spiritual legacy.
