Punjab Home Department Launches Province-Wide Crackdown on Illegal Weapons

Lahore, October 29 (Nazrana Times):

The Punjab Home Department has initiated a major province-wide crackdown on illegal weapons in an effort to enhance law and order and ensure public safety. A formal directive has been issued to all Deputy Commissioners, the CCPO Lahore, and District Police Officers (DPOs) and City Police Officers (CPOs) across Punjab, instructing them to submit detailed reports on all illegal arms seizures and related actions within three days.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Home Department, the report must include comprehensive details of each seized weapon, including its type, model, and serial number, the corresponding FIR number, the names of accused persons, and the current status of each case. This data will be consolidated and shared with both the Crime Control Department and the Home Department for further evaluation and database integration.
The spokesperson emphasized that the Punjab Government has implemented a database-driven strategy to curb the spread of illegal weapons and strengthen law enforcement mechanisms. “Illegal arms fuel criminal activities and pose a direct threat to citizens’ safety. The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward the possession or trade of unlicensed weapons,” he said.
The statement further highlighted that a complete province-wide verification of arms licenses and dealership records has been successfully completed. All processes related to the issuance, renewal, and verification of weapon licenses have now been fully digitized in collaboration with NADRA, ensuring greater transparency and accountability.
In addition, the Punjab Government has reinforced relevant laws to prevent the possession and circulation of illegal arms, aiming to promote lasting peace, rule of law, and protection of citizens across the province.
