Pakistani actress Mahira Khan is expecting her second child at the age of 41 and has opened up about the physical and emotional experience of pregnancy at a different stage of her life.
According to Daily Jang, Khan spoke about her pregnancy journey during an interview while attending the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Her appearance also marked her debut at the prestigious festival, where she participated in its Community Impact programming and was recognised for her contribution to cinema.
Khan said she had not expected to become a mother again at 41. At this stage of her life, she said, her son had grown up and she had become accustomed to her work, routines and independence.
Reflecting on the unexpected development, Khan said people make many plans for their lives, but Allah has His own plan, which she described as the best. She said the experience had taught her that it is not always necessary to control everything or have answers to every question in advance.
Khan said she first became a mother at the age of 24, when she experienced pregnancy with a certain innocence. She recalled being in good health and not thinking extensively about possible difficulties.
This time, however, she said the pregnancy has been more physically challenging. There are days, she explained, when her body does not allow her to do what her mind wants, despite being accustomed to a busy lifestyle involving work, travel and multiple responsibilities.
She also described the emotional experience as different. At 41, she said, she is more aware, worries about more things and has a deeper understanding of the fragility and importance of life.
Alongside the happiness of expecting a child, Khan said she has experienced emotions including fear, exhaustion and weakness during the pregnancy.
Mahira Khan to Return to Television in Mitti De Baway
Meanwhile, Khan is preparing for her television comeback with the upcoming drama Mitti De Baway, in which she plays Bilquees, known as Billo.
Set in 1999, the drama stars Khan opposite Wahaj Ali, who plays Baala. It marks the first time the two actors will appear together on screen.
Billo is portrayed as a young woman from an affluent family who falls in love with Baala, whose family is believed to have a troubled history when it comes to love. Their relationship takes a dramatic turn, eventually leading Billo to a position of influence as a spiritual leader.
The trailer presents Billo as a mysterious and intense peerni, a role that differs from many of Khan’s previous television characters. It also hints at a complicated history between Billo and Baala, who once loved each other before separating and eventually finding their way back to each other.
Produced by Green Entertainment, Mitti De Baway is among the highly anticipated dramas marking Khan’s return to television after an extended absence. The trailer has also attracted attention for the on-screen pairing of Khan and Wahaj Ali.
