SGPC Meeting: Resignation of Harjinder Singh Dhami Rejected

Chandigarh 17 March ,Jugraj Singh Sarhali

A crucial meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) executive committee was held in Chandigarh. During this meeting, the resignation submitted by Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami was rejected through a resolution. Committee members stated that they would try to persuade Harjinder Singh Dhami to withdraw his resignation and continue in his role.

This decision has further fueled speculation that Harjinder Singh Dhami might continue serving as SGPC President.

Resignation Was Given on Moral Grounds

It is noteworthy that Harjinder Singh Dhami had submitted his resignation nearly a month ago on moral grounds. His decision came after former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, criticized, via social media, the removal of Giani Harpreet Singh from the position of Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.

SGPC Members Continue Efforts to Convince Dhami

Despite multiple attempts by the committee members to persuade him to withdraw his resignation, Harjinder Singh Dhami had previously refused to reconsider his decision. However, with the committee now formally rejecting his resignation, there is increased pressure on him to continue as SGPC President.

The final decision now rests with Harjinder Singh Dhami—whether he will reconsider and continue as President or stick to his resignation.
