Amritsar, February 25 –Sodh Singh Baaz
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has clarified that a resolution from 1999, which was officially repealed, is being circulated on social media to mislead the Sikh community.
In an official statement, SGPC General Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan stated that Resolution No. 1457 from the SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee meeting on February 20, 1999, is being widely shared on social media, despite the fact that it was annulled through Resolution No. 201 during the SGPC’s General House meeting on March 30, 1999.
The Resolution Was Beyond the Authority of the Dharam Prachar Committee
Kulwant Singh Mannan explained that any resolutions passed by SGPC’s internal committees require final approval from the General House before implementation. He further added, “If a resolution is inconsistent with the organization’s policies, the SGPC General House has the authority to reject it.”
He clarified that the resolution passed by the Dharam Prachar Committee on February 20, 1999, was beyond its jurisdiction, which is why it was annulled under the leadership of then-SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur during the annual budget session on March 30, 1999.
Appeal to the Sikh Community to Avoid Spreading Misinformation
The SGPC General Secretary urged the Sikh community to refrain from sharing unverified information on social media. He stated, "Given the current Panthic situation, such malicious acts will not be tolerated. Any documents related to the SGPC should be verified before being circulated online.”
