Pakistan Minister Ramesh Singh Arora Highlights Sikh Heritage Protection at UK Parliament Event

Speaking at the UK Parliament during the launch of the UK Gurdwara Alliance and the 20th anniversary celebration of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for British Sikhs, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Pakistan’s Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding Sikh religious heritage and promoting global Sikh unity.

Arora, also President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC), highlighted major steps taken by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, including the allocation of billions of rupees for the restoration and maintenance of Gurdwaras.

He announced the full implementation of the Sikh Marriage Act, allowing legal recognition of Anand Karaj ceremonies and marriage registration under local governance. He also referred to the establishment of Mediation Councils to support Sikh families and the Evacuee Trust Property Board’s role in preserving religious sites.

On education, Arora noted that scholarships for Sikh students are being provided for higher education, reinforcing the government’s commitment to minority upliftment.

> “Pakistan is the custodian of Sikhism’s most sacred sites, and we welcome Sikhs from across the globe to visit their spiritual homeland,” Arora stated.

His remarks were met with appreciation from UK parliamentarians, Sikh leaders, and Gurdwara representatives from across the country, who gathered to celebrate two decades of advocacy and unity within the British Sikh community.
