 Islamabad: Nazrana Times

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced a comprehensive relief and incentive package for exporters, including a reduction in the export refinancing rate from 7.5% to 4.5%, a decrease of Rs. 4.04 per unit in electricity tariffs for industry, a Rs. 9 cut in wheeling charges, and the issuance of two-year blue passports to top-performing exporters.
Addressing a ceremony held in honor of leading exporters and business personalities, the Prime Minister said that exporters’ tireless efforts have brought billions of dollars into Pakistan and helped move the economy from stability toward sustainable growth. He stated that Pakistan has successfully avoided default and is now on a path of economic recovery and development.
The Prime Minister noted that inflation has declined to single digits, the policy rate has dropped from 22% to 10.5%, and foreign exchange reserves have doubled. He acknowledged the support of friendly countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, during challenging economic times.
Highlighting the importance of export-led growth, Shehbaz Sharif said that economic stability alone is not enough and that poverty and unemployment can only be reduced by increasing exports. He assured the business community that the government would continue to provide a conducive environment and necessary incentives for investment and trade.
The Prime Minister emphasized close coordination between political and military leadership for national development and said Pakistan’s diplomatic standing has improved significantly following recent successes. He added that Pakistani passports are now viewed with greater respect internationally.
Announcing further measures, the Prime Minister said exporters’ taxes have been reduced from 7.5% to 4.5%, and refinancing facilities have been expanded, with Rs. 1,052 billion allocated under the export refinancing scheme. He urged banks to extend financing support to small and medium enterprises as well.
During the ceremony, top exporters from textile, rice, leather, and other sectors were awarded for their outstanding performance in 2024 and 2025. A documentary showcasing the government’s economic achievements was also presented.
