ISLAMABAD (Nazrana Times): Pakistan has temporarily suspended commercial trade at the Gabd-Rimdan and Taftan border crossings with Iran in Balochistan, citing security concerns, anti-smuggling measures and efforts to improve border management, officials said.
The suspension has left thousands of trucks and containers stranded on both sides of the border. Traders fear financial losses and possible shortages of goods, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), if the disruption continues.
Passenger movement reportedly continues
Reports indicate that passenger traffic through the Rimdan-Gabd crossing remains operational despite the halt in commercial trade.
Some Iranian officials have linked the disruption in Iranian exports to banking sanctions rather than a complete physical closure, suggesting that the land route itself remains open.
No timeline announced for trade resumption
Officials described the suspension as temporary and said trade would resume once effective security arrangements were in place. Authorities have not announced a reopening date.
The measure comes amid heightened security concerns in Balochistan, including recent security incidents.
Iran’s foreign ministry has also described the closure as temporary. Pakistani officials have yet to issue a detailed statement explaining when full commercial activity will resume.
Traders on both sides are monitoring the situation, warning that a prolonged suspension could increase economic pressure and disrupt cross-border supply chains.
