Araghchi, Field Marshal Asim Munir Discuss Regional Developments in Phone Call
ISLAMABAD/BEIJING (Nazrana Times Monitoring Desk): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a telephone conversation during Araghchi’s visit to Beijing, discussing the latest regional developments and matters of mutual interest between Iran and Pakistan.
The conversation took place on Wednesday while Araghchi was in the Chinese capital for diplomatic consultations. Iranian accounts of the call did not publicly disclose detailed outcomes or announce any specific agreement between Tehran and Islamabad.
The contact came amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and continuing diplomatic efforts involving Iran, Pakistan, China and other regional and international actors.
Araghchi Holds Talks With Wang Yi in Beijing
During his Beijing visit, Araghchi also met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on September 16. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, their discussions covered the situation in the Middle East, China-Iran relations and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
China said Wang encouraged Iran and the United States to exercise restraint and return to substantive consultations based on understandings reached so far. Beijing also expressed support for dialogue between Iran and Gulf countries and called for measures to restore safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi, according to the Chinese account, outlined Iran’s position on the conflict and its diplomatic contacts with regional countries. He said Tehran wanted its legitimate rights and interests protected while maintaining peaceful and friendly relations with neighbouring states.
Pakistan-Iran Contact Amid Regional Tensions
The Araghchi-Munir conversation forms part of wider diplomatic contacts taking place as governments seek ways to prevent further regional escalation.
Some Pakistani and international reports, citing unnamed Pakistani government sources, said the discussion also touched on recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and efforts to revive stalled Iran-US diplomacy. Because those additional details have not been included in the brief public Iranian account of the call, they remain source-attributed reporting rather than officially confirmed details of the conversation.
The publicly confirmed account remains limited: Araghchi and Field Marshal Munir discussed the latest regional developments and issues of mutual interest between Pakistan and Iran. No detailed readout announcing specific commitments or agreements was immediately released.
