The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has taken serious notice of the recent assault on a Sikh trader in Rishikesh and is closely monitoring the situation. SGPC President, Kulwant Singh Mand, has written a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, urging the state government to take strict action against the individuals responsible for the incident.
Kulwant Singh Mand emphasized that the assault also involved disrespect towards the Sikh religious symbols, such as the dastar (turban) and kes (hair), which deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. He mentioned that provisions related to insulting religious sentiments were included in the police report, highlighting the severity of the issue.
Mand also stated that a delegation from SGPC would soon meet the victimized Sikh trader and the officials of the Uttarakhand government to ensure proper legal action is taken. The SGPC's effort aims to ensure that such incidents are addressed with utmost seriousness and that the Sikh community's religious sentiments are protected.
