Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday termed the temporary ceasefire a "magnificent moment in history" and expressed hope that the Islamabad talks would extinguish the flames of war forever.
Addressing the federal cabinet, the Prime Minister said he wished to thank the Iranian and US leadership for accepting his request for a ceasefire and peace. He stated that the success on the diplomatic front was made possible by the unity and tireless efforts of the political and military leadership.
"Allah Almighty has blessed us with a great diplomatic victory. Internal and external conspiracies to pit brother against brother those who believe in one God, one Prophet, and one Quran have failed," the Prime Minister said. "Today’s Pakistan is a changed Pakistan. The whole world is praising Pakistan today. The way we have stopped the catastrophic tide of inflation is no small feat."

The Prime Minister said they had gathered at a moment when Allah had bestowed such honour upon Pakistan that cannot be achieved without His will, even after a lifetime of effort. "It includes collective efforts, sincerity, hard work, honesty, and above all, efforts to cool the fires of war with our Muslim brothers and friendly countries. I bow before Allah for this. The 240 million people of Pakistan have been made proud by Allah."
He noted that the flames of war were engulfing not only the region but the entire world. More than a month had passed since the war began, and now the flames had been extinguished for two weeks. "InshaAllah, they will be extinguished forever. On the point of partnership, sincerity, and goodwill, the political and military leadership is and will remain united."
The PM said attempts were made during the war to pit brother against brother, raising sectarian issues to make followers of different schools of thought who believe in one God, one Prophet, and one Book — fight each other. "But internal and external conspiracies have failed."
"The honour and respect Pakistan has received, Allah bestows upon someone only once in centuries. This is a bright moment in the country’s history. From Tokyo to London, and from Casablanca to Kuala Lumpur, people and media are talking about Pakistan."
The Prime Minister paid rich tribute to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and his team for working day and night for over a month. He also acknowledged Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who remained in contact with US and Iranian leadership. "This story of peace efforts, if compiled into a book, will be a great lesson for future generations on how not to lose hope even in despair and to seek help from Allah."
‘’I want to thank the Iranian and American leadership for accepting my request and acknowledging Pakistan’s seriousness and sincerity for peace," the PM said. He thanked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump for agreeing to a two-week ceasefire. He also expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Türkiye, Indonesia, Egypt, Azerbaijan, the UAE, and Pakistan's great friend China for supporting Pakistan's peace efforts.
The PM mentioned his telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, expressing regret over attacks on the industrial complex and petrochemical industries in Jubail. "I told him that the entire Pakistani nation, leadership, and government stand with you, and we will never disappoint you. He said, 'I have full faith in you. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are two brothers and one family.'"
The Prime Minister remarked that the coordination and liaison between the country's political and military leadership was something he had never seen in his 40-year political career. "I pay rich tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He is not only the hero of the May 2025 war, but today too, he has worked day and night shoulder to shoulder with the political leadership."
"The war has been temporarily averted, and the ceasefire is the first step, but our destination is sustainable and lasting peace, development, and prosperity," the PM said. "On my invitation, American and Iranian delegations are arriving in Pakistan the day after tomorrow. May Allah Almighty make these negotiations successful and open the doors of development and prosperity."
The Prime Minister said challenges also present opportunities. "The way we have stopped the catastrophic wave of inflation is no small feat. In our neighbouring countries, there were lines for petrol and rationing had begun, but we raised petroleum product prices by Rs. 55 per litre in the first week, and then the federal government bore Rs. 129 billion in subsidies."
The PM thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for his full support and guidance during the crisis. He also expressed deep gratitude to his leader, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, for guiding him at every step. The Prime Minister thanked federal ministers, chief ministers of all four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, special assistants, advisors, leaders of allied parties, and senior government officials for their cooperation.
"Today’s Pakistan is a changed Pakistan, and this success belongs to the common man, farmer, labourer, tonga driver, shopkeeper, politicians, widows, orphans, government officers — the entire nation," he concluded.
