Chandigarh, October 13 , Mangat Singh Saidpur - Giani Harpreet Singh, President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar-Surjit), expressed deep sorrow over the death of young activist S. Parvinder Singh Jhota in a written press statement. He alleged that this murder proves just how hollow the Punjab government's claims of a 'war on drugs' truly are, given that a young man was killed simply for raising his voice against the sale of narcotics. Giani Harpreet Singh remarked that if there were any substance to the government's claims of a war on drugs, a drug peddler would not have brazenly murdered someone—on camera—for trying to stop the sale of drugs. He noted that the video clearly shows S. Parvinder Singh attempting to call police officials, yet no one answered his calls. This also raises a serious question regarding the law and order situation. Had the police arrived at the scene and taken appropriate action, a brave young man would not have lost his life. Giani Harpreet Singh demanded action not only against the killer but also against all the officials who failed to handle the situation upon reaching the spot.
