Historic Move: China University Adds Punjabi Language to Curriculum

Lahor , Nazrana Times - In a major cultural step on March 16, 2026, Beijing Foreign Studies University officially introduced Punjabi as part of its foreign language courses. Punjabi has now become the 102nd language taught at the university, joining other Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, and Urdu. The course includes learning the Gurmukhi script and offers deep knowledge of Punjabi history and culture, helping students understand the rich heritage of Punjab.
The program will be led by Professor Zameerpal Kaur Sandhu Bajwa, who will also train local teachers to ensure long-term growth of the language. These courses are specially designed for Chinese students, diplomats, and officials to improve communication and cultural connection with Punjabi-speaking communities. This move is seen as a strong step toward building better global and cultural ties.
