The difficulties of people planning to study and work in Canada have now increased. In fact, Canada has made its immigration rules stricter than before. Under the new rules, border and immigration officials will now be able to directly cancel temporary residence visas like study and work permits. These changes have been implemented by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). These rules have come into effect from January 31, 2025 and have also been published in the Canada Gazette II.

IRCC has issued a statement on this matter. In its statement, IRCC said, “We will continue to improve processes and invest in equipment to secure the border and protect the immigration system.” Under the new rules, authorities can cancel Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) and Permanent Residence Visa (TRV). However, this can happen if a person is ineligible or provides false information or has a criminal record.

Apart from this, study and work permits can also now be cancelled under certain circumstances. For example, if the permit holder becomes a permanent resident of Canada, dies or there is an administrative error in his documents, then in such a situation the permit can be cancelled. Changes are being made in the immigration rules in Canada and this is being seen most impacting Indians.
