The sequence of events that unfolded at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2nd was aimed solely at the revival of the Akali Dal and the unity of the Panth — Giani Harpreet Singh.
Chandigarh, October 26 ,Mangat Singh Saidpur , Giani Harpreet Singh, President of 'Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit', stated in a written press release that the entire sequence of events which took place at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2, 2024, was intended exclusively for the revival of Punjab’s regional and Panthic party. However, certain individuals—disregarding established religious decorum—sought to sabotage this entire process by baselessly accusing the 'Panj Singh Sahibaan' (the five high priests) of conspiracy. They subsequently humiliated the Jathedars and removed them from their positions. All political leaders involved in this matter are aware that this was a highly prudent decision taken to save the Shiromani Akali Dal; it transpired under the divine guidance of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and was accepted by the entire Panth. In the recruitment process mandated by the directives from Sri Takht Sahib, any president could have been elected through a democratic method. However, individuals driven by a desperate greed for the presidency—lacking any confidence in their own merit—bypassed these official directives (*hukumnamas*) and succeeded in imposing themselves as presidents. Giani Harpreet Singh questioned how those who characterized the directives from Sri Akal Takht Sahib as a "conspiracy to murder them" can now, with any moral standing, call for *Panthic* (community) unity. If they are truly committed to unity, they should go to Sri Akal Takht Sahib today, seek forgiveness from the Guru and the entire *Panth* for their defiance, and apologize. This would convince the Sikh *Panth* and the people of Punjab that they are genuinely sincere about *Panthic* unity.
Giani Harpreet Singh also instructed leaders of his party to ensure that, before making any statements regarding unity, they keep in mind the directives issued on December 2nd—directives concerning which he himself had approached Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Aligning with others out of a greed for positions or a lust for power cannot be termed 'Panthic unity.' Such an alliance will benefit neither the Panth nor Punjab, nor will it serve the interests of those greedy individuals who aspire to such a form of unity. Regarding statements made outside of the party line, Giani Harpreet Singh remarked that these may represent the personal views of the leaders who issued them; they have no connection to the policies and principles of the Akali Dal—which was revived in accordance with the *Hukumnamas* (edicts) of December 2nd.
