Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in China for SCO Summit and High-Level Bilateral Talks

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, arrived in Tianjin, China, on Saturday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit, as well as official bilateral engagements aimed at boosting Pakistan-China ties.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning and Development Dr. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and senior government officials.
At Tianjin Airport, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Sun Meijun, Minister and Secretary of the CPC Committee of the General Administration of Customs of China; Yu Yunlin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal People’s Congress and Party Secretary; Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi; and China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.
From August 31 to September 1, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz will attend and address the SCO Summit. On the sidelines, he will hold key meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, focusing on regional security, economic cooperation, and joint development initiatives under the Pakistan-China strategic partnership.
The Prime Minister will also meet leaders of other SCO member states to strengthen regional collaboration. In Beijing, he is set to preside over the Second Pakistan-China B2B Investment Conference on September 4, 2025, where he will engage with Chinese business leaders to explore fresh opportunities in trade and investment.
This visit is seen as a significant step in reinforcing Pakistan’s long-standing ties with China, particularly at a time when both countries are committed to expanding their cooperation in economic, diplomatic, and strategic spheres.
