75 Years of Struggle for Press Freedom: PFUJ Platinum Jubilee Observed

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) marked its 75th anniversary with a special platinum jubilee ceremony organized by the Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) at the Lahore Press Club.

The historic event began with a cake-cutting ceremony, followed by the lighting of candles in remembrance of journalists who sacrificed their lives for the cause of press freedom. Senior journalists, PFUJ and PUJ leaders, and members of the Lahore Press Club gathered in large numbers to reaffirm their unity on this landmark occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, PUJ President Mian Shahid Nadeem reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting the rights of working journalists. He emphasized that through PFUJ, the community has always stood firm in defending freedom of expression and ensuring the safety of journalists. He praised PFUJ President Rana Muhammad Azeem’s leadership, vowing that the struggle for truth and justice will continue with full determination.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including PFUJ Assistant Secretary Shahid Chaudhry, Information Secretary Ehtisham-ul-Haq, former PUJ President Usman bin Ahmed, General Secretary Qazi Tariq Aziz, Vice President of Lahore Press Club Saima Nawaz, PUJ Treasurer Adnan Lodhi, and many others.

Prominent senior journalists such as Gulzar Mustafai, Ahmed Nadeem Saleemi, Deen Muhammad Dard, Mirza Rizwan, Ayub Chauhan, and Nafees Qadri were also present.

The ceremony concluded with renewed pledges to continue PFUJ’s mission of safeguarding press freedom, democracy, and media workers’ rights. Speakers highlighted that PFUJ’s 75-year journey stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to independent journalism in Pakistan.
