In a magnificent display of patriotism, solidarity and national pride, thousands of citizens converged at the historic Wagah Border on Monday to mark the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, the landmark military campaign in which Pakistan's armed forces delivered a decisive and historic response to Indian aggression last year.
The nationwide commemorations mark the anniversary of the epic event spanning April 22 to May 10, 2025 paying homage to the brave armed forces of Pakistan and honouring the strong resolve of the elected government that, as participants described it, defeated India on all fronts.
The gathering at Wagah the very symbol of Pakistan's sovereign frontier drew families, youth, civil society members and representatives of minority communities, all united under the green-and-white national flag in an atmosphere charged with reverence and resolve.
A Ceremony Etched in Emotion
The event opened with a specially choreographed and emotionally charged flag-lowering ceremony conducted by Pakistan Rangers, which drew thunderous cheers and patriotic slogans from the packed crowd. A disciplined parade by Rangers personnel showcased the professionalism and strength of the force that guards this sacred border every day and every night.
Unity walks followed, with participants carrying banners and placards promoting peace, resilience and national harmony. National songs reverberated across the venue as flag-waving citizens chanted slogans of unwavering support for the Pakistan Army the force that ISPR formally credited for carrying out the most effective counter-terrorism operations in the western region simultaneously with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, in what officials called a great example of synergy between all elements of national power.

The Battle That Pakistan Will Never Forget
Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos was launched on May 10, 2025, as part of the military conflict formally named Marka-e-Haq The Battle of Truth in response to Indian military strikes that began on the night of May 6 and 7, resulting in the deaths of innocent civilians, including women, children and the elderly.
The operation's name draws inspiration from Surah Al-Saff (61:4), which praises those who fight in a righteous cause as a solid, fortified structure. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir offered Fajr prayers and recited Surah Al-Saff before the operation commenced.
The campaign represented a fully integrated tri-services operation, combining air, land, sea and cyber capabilities in real time, with Pakistan's armed forces targeting 26 military installations and associated facilities across Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and mainland India.
Speakers at the Wagah ceremony paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of that campaign, emphasising that events such as this one serve to strengthen national spirit and remind every citizen of the collective duty to defend Pakistan's sovereignty.
Interfaith Unity: A Message Beyond Boundaries
A significant highlight of Monday's ceremony was the powerful interfaith dimension. Religious leaders from Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Hindu communities stood shoulder to shoulder on a shared stage to offer prayers for Pakistan's stability and long-term prosperity reinforcing that the nation's commitment to its defence transcends all religious and social boundaries.
Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights Ramesh Singh Arora and PML N Lahore President Saiful Malook Khokhar attended the ceremony alongside political figures and civil society representatives. Around 500 Lahore Police university volunteers actively participated, playing a key role in ensuring smooth organisation and taking part in the unity walk.

Candlelight Vigil: A Nation Remembers Its Heroes
The ceremony concluded with a deeply moving candlelight vigil, where participants lit candles in memory of the fallen heroes of Marka-e-Haq. Moments of silence were observed and prayers were offered in an atmosphere of solemn gratitude.
The flickering flames at Wagah on the very border that Pakistan's armed forces stood to defend served as a reminder that the price of sovereignty is never forgotten, and the sacrifices of martyrs shall forever illuminate the path forward.
The event stood as an enduring symbol of national pride, unity and resilience, leaving attendees with renewed spirit and an unshakeable commitment to the homeland.
