Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Greets Sikh Community on Visakhi, Reaffirms Commitment to Minority Rights
ISLAMABAD, April 13, 2026
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday extended his warmest greetings to the Sikh community in Pakistan and around the world on the occasion of Visakhi, the traditional and religious harvest festival celebrated across Punjab.
In a message issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Wing, PM Shehbaz described Visakhi as an expression of joy and gratitude after months of patient hard work. He said the festival marked by fairs across Punjab highlights the positive spirit of humanity and the happiness that comes from reaping the fruits of one’s labor.

“This festival conveys a message of humble gratitude when the fruits of labour are attained,” the Prime Minister said.
He noted that Sikh pilgrims from across the globe travel to Pakistan to participate in Visakhi ceremonies at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal and Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib. The government, he added, always welcomes all visiting Sikh and Hindu pilgrims and makes special arrangements for their facilitation at religious sites.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to interfaith harmony, PM Shehbaz said the teachings of Islam and the Constitution of Pakistan guarantee equal rights and religious freedom for all citizens, regardless of colour or creed.
“The protection of the basic human, religious and civil rights of minority communities is among the responsibilities of the state,” he said.
The Prime Minister concluded his message by calling on the nation to offer special prayers for global peace, stability and the well-being of humanity.
“Wishing you all the joys of Visakhi,” he said.
