Federal Ombudsman directs that complainants be facilitated fully; infrastructure improvements underway

Federal Ombudsman Naveed Kamran Baloch has directed his officers to extend every possible facilitation to complainants visiting the office. He said that if a complaint falls under the jurisdiction of another federal or provincial ombudsman, instead of sending the complainant back, the complaint should be received and forwarded to the concerned ombudsman along with a covering letter from his office.
He stated that efforts to deliver justice close to people’s homes through the OCR (Online Complaint Resolution) program and open courts (khuli kacheries) will continue, and further steps in this regard are being taken soon. He also said that the "IRD" (Informal Resolution of Disputes) program, which resolves disputed matters between parties through mediation, is being further expanded.
The Federal Ombudsman instructed officers to ensure that complaints are resolved within the stipulated period of 60 days. He expressed these views while chairing a monthly performance review meeting of his department, which was attended by heads of all divisions, while regional offices participated via an online session.
During the briefing, it was informed that by March 31 of the current year, 62,734 complaints had been received. The computerized management information system (CMIS) of the Federal Ombudsman is now linked with 213 federal government departments. If complaints received by these departments remain unresolved within one month, they are automatically transferred to the Federal Ombudsman’s system and action is initiated. Efforts are underway to bring the remaining federal departments under this system as well.
Naveed Kamran Baloch further stated that the public awareness campaign about the Federal Ombudsman will be further streamlined so that more people can benefit from the institution. He added that steps are also being taken to further improve the office’s infrastructure.
