U.S. Afghanistan War Commission Delegation Meets Field Marshal Asim Munir at GHQ

RAWALPINDI, September 28, 2026 (Nazrana Times): A delegation of the U.S. Afghanistan War Commission met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday, as the Commission continues its review of the United States’ two-decade engagement in Afghanistan.

The delegation was led by the Commission’s Co-Chairs, Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr. Colin F. Jackson, according to Pakistan military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, including Pakistan’s role and support during the Afghanistan conflict, the regional security environment and developments in Afghanistan. The two sides also exchanged views relevant to the Commission’s assessment of the conflict.

Field Marshal Asim Munir presented Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the war and outlined the challenges the country faced during the prolonged conflict in neighbouring Afghanistan.

According to ISPR, he stressed that regional perspectives, particularly Pakistan’s experience, should be taken into account when examining the strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions of the conflict.

The visiting delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the Afghanistan conflict and appreciated the country’s continued contribution to regional peace and stability, ISPR said.

The U.S. Afghanistan War Commission is reviewing the United States’ 20-year engagement in Afghanistan, including the circumstances and experiences that shaped the conflict.
