RAWALPINDI, October 22, 2026 (Nazrana Times): Sri Lanka defeated England by two wickets in the ODI tri-series on Thursday, chasing 430 with one ball remaining despite a record-breaking double century from England captain Harry Brook.

Janith Liyanage struck the winning six off the penultimate delivery at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, finishing unbeaten on 61 from 27 balls. Sri Lanka reached 430-8 in 49.5 overs, completing the second-highest successful chase in men’s ODI history.

Brook Makes History With Double Century

Brook smashed 202 off 116 balls, hitting 21 fours and 10 sixes. He became the first England batter to score a double century in men’s ODI cricket and reached the milestone in 114 balls, setting a record for the format’s fastest double hundred.

England finished on 429-4 from 50 overs. Joe Root contributed 69, Will Jacks remained unbeaten on 66, and Tom Banton scored 50.

Rathnayake Leads Sri Lanka’s Chase

Pavan Rathnayake anchored Sri Lanka’s response with 130 off 106 balls. Avishka Fernando added 97, while Dasun Shanaka accelerated the chase with 97 from just 50 deliveries.

Liyanage then provided the finishing flourish, securing victory with a six from the fifth delivery of the final over.

England Suffer Second Consecutive Defeat

The result left England without a win in their first two matches of the tournament. Pakistan had beaten them by 87 runs in Rawalpindi on October 20.

The tri-series now moves to Lahore, where Pakistan are scheduled to face England on October 25.
