Chandigarh, October 31 , Mangat Singh Saidpur -Initiatives taken by political parties engaged in electoral politics may prove politically beneficial. However, those who ignore the primary concerns of the public should never expect to secure a victory through any strategic planning. This observation was made by Giani Harpreet Singh, President of 'Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit' (Revival), in a written press statement issued in response to the Aam Aadmi Party’s first list of candidates. Giani Harpreet Singh stated that the police force is being misused to forcibly take the bodies of drug-related fatalities away from their grieving families; individuals who speak out against drug traffickers are being murdered in broad daylight; and gangsterism is running rampant across Punjab. Small traders, business owners, and salaried professionals are being threatened and extorted for money. For the perpetrators, shooting someone—anywhere, at any time—is as trivial as child's play. Yet, the Punjab government—which had guaranteed the safety and well-being of the public—is busy making empty, boastful claims while dreaming of winning another term.
Giani Harpreet Singh remarked that those who once claimed to have risen from the ranks of the common people have become so detached and 'elite' that they now completely avoid meeting grieving families, listening to the public's concerns, or providing any answers. They seem to have forgotten that the very people who granted them such an overwhelming mandate would not hesitate for a second to send them packing. Precedents for this already exist—examples that they themselves frequently cite. Giani Harpreet Singh stated that if the head of this government retains even a shred of humanity, he should return the body of the youth from Bhamme Kalan to his family, offer an apology, and provide full compensation. Furthermore, the police officers responsible for the high-handedness against the people in Mansa should be suspended, and all the arrested youths should be released. He added that the authorities should also meet with the family of the late Parvinder Singh and resolve the issue immediately. In his concluding remarks, Giani Harpreet Singh emphasized that those who rise from among the people should maintain a bond with the common public, rather than acting as oppressors who inflict cruelty upon them.
