Punjab to Deploy Anti-Drone Units in All Districts in Country’s First Major Security Initiative

Lahore, March 6 Nazrana Times

In a landmark security measure, the Punjab government has announced the establishment of anti-drone units across all districts of the province the first initiative of its kind in the country’s history.

The decision, taken on the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, aims to bolster aerial surveillance and enhance counter-terrorism capabilities using state-of-the-art the art technology, officials said on Thursday.

According to Mr Tauseef Gondal, spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, each district will be equipped with dedicated anti-drone systems and specialised drone fleets. These units will operate under the supervision of the respective District Police Officers (DPOs).

The anti-drone systems will be fitted with advanced jammers capable of neutralising hostile or unauthorised drones, particularly those posing threats to public safety and security.

“The move is part of broader efforts to modernise policing and strengthen law enforcement’s capacity to respond to emerging aerial threats,” Gondal said. He added that the systems would be tailored to meet the specific surveillance and security needs of each district.

It is worth noting that flying drones in outdoor spaces is already prohibited across Punjab under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The ban was imposed by the provincial government over growing security concerns, though law enforcement and intelligence agencies remain exempt from the restriction.
Authorities have urged citizens to strictly comply with the ban, reiterating that public safety and the protection of property remain top priorities for the Punjab government.
