ICC Imposes 10% Match-Fee Fine and One Demerit Point Following Women’s Asia Cup Match Against India

DUBAI (Nazrana Times): Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 percent of her match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Group A match against India in Dubai. 

The disciplinary action followed an incident after Fatima dismissed Indian opener Shafali Verma. During her celebration, the Pakistan captain gestured towards the pavilion, an action match officials considered a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The provision covers language, actions or gestures following a dismissal that may disparage a batter or provoke an aggressive reaction. 

Fatima admitted the offence and accepted the sanction. The penalty consisted of a 10 percent match-fee fine and one demerit point. This was her second offence within a 24-month period, taking her disciplinary record to two demerit points. Her previous offence occurred during a T20I against Ireland in August 2025. 

Importantly, the punishment did not include a one-match suspension, meaning Fatima remained eligible to represent Pakistan in their crucial Group A encounter against Hong Kong. Pakistan needed a victory in that match as they pursued qualification for the Women’s Asia Cup semi-finals. 

India had earlier defeated Pakistan by seven wickets after dismissing them for 55. India chased the 56-run target comfortably to maintain their unbeaten run in the competition.
