Contempt of court proceedings against the Chief Secretary are a source of embarrassment for the government.

Chandigarh, October 10 ,Mangat Singh Saidpur - S. Gurpratap Singh Wadala, General Secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit), remarked that it is shameful that the High Court is proceeding with a case of contempt of court orders against the Chief Secretary of Punjab. S. Wadala stated that the government has refused to release the employees' Dearness Allowance (DA). Consequently, this action should have been directed against the Punjab Finance Minister, who used to make repeated claims in press conferences that "the money would be paid." Instead, the Chief Secretary was put forward to lie in court, and now he must face the consequences. To avoid paying the employees, the government is paying exorbitant, demanded fees to expensive lawyers in the Supreme Court. Yet, despite court orders, no curbs were placed on wasteful expenditures. S. Wadala stated that the government has funds for election-time freebies and surplus money to cover everything from the extravagant expenses of its leaders to the legal costs of defending them in bribery cases; however, instead of paying employees who work tirelessly for the public, the government chose to approach the Supreme Court. This proves just how hostile this government—formed in the name of the 'common man'—actually is towards the common man. S. Wadala appealed to the public to remember all of this during the upcoming elections so that those who peddle lies can be dealt with appropriately. Concluding his statement, he demanded that the government accept responsibility for the court proceedings initiated against the Chief Secretary and that the Finance Minister be dismissed.
