Two Pakistanis Killed in Kasur Border Firing; Pakistan Calls It ‘Unprovoked,’ India Alleges Infiltration Bid

Two Pakistani civilians were killed and a third injured in firing near the Pakistan-India international border in the Kasur sector, with Pakistan and India giving conflicting accounts of the incident.
According to Pakistani security sources, the firing occurred near the Zero Line after three residents of Ladhar village moved a short distance beyond a Pakistani border pillar. The sources said the men were unarmed and had not attempted to cross the border fence when India’s Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire.
The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool, son of Attaullah, and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar village. A third civilian, identified as Sikandar, was injured.
Pakistani security sources described the incident as an “unprovoked” violation of established border arrangements and said the three men were local residents and friends rather than infiltrators. They further alleged that the firing took place without warning and said the bodies of the two deceased had not yet been handed over by Indian authorities.
India has presented a different account. Indian officials said BSF personnel near the Rajoke Border Outpost in Punjab’s Tarn Taran sector detected three individuals allegedly moving towards Indian territory late Thursday night.
According to the Indian account, the personnel issued repeated warnings to the individuals to stop and return. Indian officials said the men continued advancing, after which BSF personnel opened fire, citing a perceived security threat.
India said two alleged intruders were killed while a third person returned towards Pakistan. Indian authorities said the bodies were handed over to local police for identification and that an investigation was underway.
The two sides therefore differ over the circumstances of the incident. Pakistan maintains that the victims were unarmed local civilians who did not cross the border fence, while India describes the episode as an attempted cross-border infiltration that was intercepted by the BSF.
