 Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi met with a delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), where measures for the protection of women and children and the elimination of sexual violence were discussed. The UNFPA delegation included Provincial Coordinator Tania Durrani and Maliha Zia. The UNFPA delegation briefed the Home Secretary on the draft Punjab Sexual Violence Response Framework (PSVRF). Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi said that the protection of vulnerable segments of society is the top priority of the Punjab Chief Minister. He stated that legislation is being used to further strengthen institutions for the elimination of sexual violence. All institutions in Punjab are adhering to a zero-tolerance policy for the protection of women and children. Specifically discussing the efforts of the Home Department regarding child protection, he mentioned that the Punjab Home Department is running a "Good Touch Bad Touch" awareness campaign to protect young children. Emphasizing the importance of united efforts for the protection of women and children and the elimination of sexual violence on this occasion, the Home Secretary said that the participation of law enforcement agencies is helpful in bringing cases to a logical conclusion. The DNA databank of the Punjab Forensic Science Authority is being expanded to tighten the noose around criminals. Understanding the importance of joint efforts, the UN delegation offered cooperation in training stakeholders for the elimination of sexual violence. The delegation assured that UNFPA will provide training to officers and staff in departments under the Home Department.
