Pakistan’s ongoing monsoon deluge has wrought havoc across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), submerging villages, displacing thousands, and precipitating a dire public health crisis. UNITED SIKHS, a global humanitarian organisation, has mobilised extensive relief efforts, delivering critical medical aid, food, and community support to those hardest hit by the disaster.
Relief in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In Pir Baba village, Buner District, flash floods have obliterated entire communities, leaving stagnant water and debris that have spurred outbreaks of cholera, dysentery, malaria, viral conjunctivitis, and skin infections.
The District Health Officer reports 31% of current cases are malaria, with projections indicating a rise to 68% in coming days.
UNITED SIKHS swiftly established free medical camps, screening over 800 patients and providing vital treatment to curb disease spread.
Emergency gynaecological and general medicines were supplied to a joint relief camp run by Pakistan Army & Good Will Kaniz Foundation, addressing acute shortages.
The organisation also reached Qadir Nagar and Beshonai villages (Buner), where a catastrophic cloudburst-triggered flood swept away entire settlements. Survivors are urgently seeking mosquito nets, shelter materials, clothing, solar panels, medical supplies, cash assistance, educational resources, and dry rations.
Meanwhile, UNITED SIKHS has been distributing cooked meals, fruit, juices, and bottled water to patients in hospitals across Buner.
Impact on Sikh Community
The Sikh business community in Pir Baba Bazar, Buner has suffered enormous losses, with shops destroyed and inventories washed away. Bhai Roshan Singh, a local leader, appealed for financial aid to rebuild livelihoods. UNITED SIKHS pledged sustained support, with evaluations underway.
Relief in Punjab
In Punjab, the overflowing Ravi River has inundated large parts of Lahore, particularly Chuhng (Multan Road) and Farrukhabad (near Shahdara Bridge), displacing thousands of families.
UNITED SIKHS volunteers are serving hot langar meals, clean drinking water, and reaching families in makeshift tent encampments.
More than 1.5 million people affected across Punjab, with 850+ lives lost.
Release of water from Indian dams has worsened flooding in Ravi, Sutlej, Chenab, submerging 1,400+ villages.
Displaced families recount how swiftly rising waters swept away homes, belongings, and livelihoods worth millions. Now, they face acute shortages of food, potable water, shelter, and security.
Commitment
UNITED SIKHS remains steadfast in its mission to aid flood victims in both Punjab and KPK. From medical camps in Buner to langar meals in Lahore, the organisation continues to provide relief, bringing solace and hope to communities grappling with unprecedented loss.
