Pakistan and EU Deepen Strategic Ties at 10th Political Dialogue in Brussels

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Pakistan and the European Union (EU) held the 10th Pakistan–EU Political Dialogue in Brussels today, aimed at strengthening their multifaceted strategic partnership. The Pakistan delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, while the EU side was headed by Ambassador Olof Skoog, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

Strategic Engagement and Security Cooperation

The dialogue reaffirmed mutual commitment to the Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP) 2019, which serves as the foundation for Pakistan–EU cooperation in areas such as trade, governance, human rights, energy, climate, migration, and security. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration on security, with a renewed focus on counter-terrorism, organized crime, and counter-narcotics efforts.

Pakistan and the EU are entering a new phase of strategic convergence where shared values such as peace, multilateralism, and mutual prosperity are at the core,” noted Ambassador Baloch.

Global & Regional Issues

A range of regional and international issues were discussed, including the situations in South Asia, the Middle East, Ukraine, and Gaza. The two sides emphasized the importance of diplomatic solutions and international law in resolving ongoing conflicts.

A call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza was made, along with strong support for the two-state solution. The EU and Pakistan also reaffirmed their positions on peaceful resolutions in Jammu & Kashmir and Ukraine, aligned with the UN Charter.

Migration & Future Engagements

Looking forward, both sides agreed to hold the 3rd Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Dialogue later this year and confirmed the 7th Strategic Dialogue for 2025. The next Political Dialogue will be hosted by Islamabad in 2026, continuing the cycle of institutional engagement.
