No Fuel Shortage in Pakistan, PM Urges Public to Conserve Energy

PM Chairs Meeting on Fuel Savings, Assures Adequate Petroleum Stocks Amid Regional Crisis

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level review meeting in Lahore today regarding the implementation of fuel conservation and austerity measures in light of the regional situation.
Sufficient Petroleum Stocks Available
The Prime Minister was assured that due to timely government decisions, adequate quantities of petroleum products are available to meet the country's domestic requirements.
"Public relief remains the top priority in the current situation," the Prime Minister stated. "We have provided as much relief to the people as possible over the past three weeks."
Rs 125 Billion Subsidy to Shield Public from Global Price Hikes
The Prime Minister disclosed that the federal government has provided a substantial sum of Rs 125 billion to prevent oil price hikes, reallocated through various savings and cuts in the development budget, so that the public remains protected from the direct impact of global tensions.
Appeal for Public Cooperation
The Prime Minister appealed to the public to support the government's conservation campaign and avoid unnecessary travel. He urged that teleconferencing be prioritized in offices and workplaces.
Digitization of Motorcycles and Rickshaws
The Prime Minister directed provincial governments to facilitate motorcycle and rickshaw owners in getting their vehicles registered in their own names. He noted that this step would digitize the data of motorcycles and rickshaws across the country, enabling owners to benefit from future relief measures provided by the government.
The Prime Minister also instructed relevant officials to accelerate coordination with the chief secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Progress on Austerity Measures
The meeting was briefed on the progress of implementing austerity and savings measures. Officials reported that the demand-supply situation of petroleum products and the entire supply chain are being regularly monitored, and a digital dashboard has been developed for this purpose. Arrangements for petroleum imports for April have also been completed.
No Long Queues or Mismanagement
In contrast to other countries, there are no long queues or mismanagement regarding fuel supply in Pakistan, which officials said is evidence of the government's excellent management. The briefing noted that the oil situation has been well-managed due to timely government measures.
Fuel Support App for Motorcyclists & Rickshaw Drivers
The meeting was also briefed on a ready-made app developed for the proposed fuel support program for motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers.
