In a decisive and highPowered session, the Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order convened its landmark 50th meeting under the leadership of Khawaja Salman Rafique, alongside Co Chairman Bilal Yasin and Provincial Minister Chaudhry Shafiq Hussain, unveiling a sweeping province wide security strategy to ensure peaceful celebrations and counter emerging threats.
With Eid-ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day approaching against the backdrop of heightened tensions along the Pak Afghan border, authorities have ordered foolproof, multi-layered security arrangements across Punjab. A strict three-tier security plan will be enforced for Eid congregations, alongside intensified surveillance at mosques, Imambargahs, public venues, and key entry/exit points.
In a bold move to prevent chaos and accidents, Section 144 has been imposed, introducing a complete ban on drone operations, aerial firing, one-wheeling, temporary mechanical rides, and public display of weapons during Eid festivities.
The committee also turned its focus to the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2026, approving enhanced security protocols for all 37 matches scheduled between March 26 and May 3 in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi ensuring the safety of thousands of fans expected to attend.
Amid ongoing security concerns, the deployment of two companies of Rangers in Mianwali has been extended, reinforcing both internal security and vigilance in border-adjacent areas.
In a humanitarian gesture, the committee approved financial assistance for the victims of the February 24 suicide attack at Dajal check post in Bhakkar, which claimed the lives of police personnel and injured civilians. The attack has been linked to militant activity amid a broader surge in regional terrorism.
Emphasizing unity and vigilance, authorities directed peace committees to remain fully active, while strengthening coordination with religious leaders. Deployment of Special Branch-cleared volunteers and lady police officers at places of worship has also been mandated. Citizens have been urged to remain alert and report suspicious or objectionable online activity via official WhatsApp helplines.
The committee praised law enforcement agencies for maintaining peace during recent religious observances, including Youm-e-Ali and Youm-ul-Quds, but stressed that continued vigilance is critical given evolving threats.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Punjab government declared that protecting lives and property remains its highest priority, calling on the public to cooperate fully in ensuring a safe and secure festive season.
