Lahore Seminar: PPP Leaders Declare "Had Bhutto Been Alive, Gaza Tragedy Would Never Have Occurred"

Senior leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have asserted that had Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto been alive today, neither the Gaza tragedy would have unfolded nor would war have been imposed on Iran. They maintained that it is owing to the sacrifices of the Bhutto family that both the federation of Pakistan and the democratic order continue to stand.
These remarks were made at a seminar titled "From Atom Bomb to Missile Technology: The Invincible Pakistan of Shaheed Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto," organised by PPP Lahore in the Johar Town area of the city.
Speakers at the Seminar
The event was addressed by PPP Lahore President Faisal Mir, General Secretary Dr. Ayesha Shaukat, Maqsooma Bukhari, Majeed Ghouri, Begum Nasira Shaukat, Nargis Khan, Shahida Jabeen, and Tahira Habib Jalib. A large number of party workers and office-bearers were also in attendance, including Shahid Abbas Advocate, Khurram Farooq, Asghar Bhatti, Agha Taqi Shah, Aamir Nasir Butt, Rana Ikram Rabbani, Afraz Naqvi, Ahmed Ghuman, Asjad Malik, Arif Khan, Farrukhanda Malik, Kausar Naheed Mohal, Dr. Rafiq, Rao Shujaat, Shahnaz Kanwal, Tariq Khurshid, and Mansha Prince.
Resolution for Bhutto Statues at Minar-e-Pakistan
PPP Lahore President Faisal Mir presented a resolution calling for the installation of statues of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto at Minar-e-Pakistan. The resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority of participants. Mir proposed that the resolution be formally forwarded to the National Assembly, the Senate, and all provincial assemblies.
Key Remarks
Speakers credited Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's nuclear and missile programme for Pakistan's continued security, stating that the country's strategic deterrence today is a direct legacy of his vision and resolve.
Reaffirming the party's founding principles, the speakers stressed that Roti, Kapra, Makan bread, clothing, and shelter remains the PPP's core agenda, and cautioned that women's empowerment cannot be achieved through billboards and photographs alone.
Paying tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's crowning diplomatic achievement, they recalled that he secured the return of 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war with honour — a feat unmatched in the country's history. They also noted that the era of enforced disappearances in Pakistan began under the military rule of General Zia-ul-Haq, who had Bhutto sent to the gallows.
On his enduring legacy, one speaker declared: "Bhutto was a martyr, is a martyr, and will remain one forever. He was not merely 'accepted' by the people — he was beloved. Had he been merely accepted, he would not have walked to the gallows."
Speakers further noted that following the martyrdom of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, President Asif Ali Zardari held the federation together by rallying the nation under the slogan "Pakistan Khappay" — Pakistan shall endure.
Expressing deep frustration, several speakers urged the party's central leadership to immediately withdraw from the ruling government coalition.

Reflecting on the sacrifices made across generations, one speaker remarked: "Some gave their lives, some were imprisoned, some went missing, and some were forced into exile. Bhutto runs in our veins — he was our pride and our leader. Wherever there is oppression, there is Karbala."
Speakers also recalled that despite direct threats from the United States, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto chose to sacrifice his life rather than abandon Pakistan's nuclear programme.
Pinning the party's future hopes on the next generation, the speakers declared: "Every aspiration of the Jiyalas rests with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. By uniting the ranks of disenchanted workers, we will make Bilawal Bhutto the Prime Minister of Pakistan." They pledged to carry his message to every street and neighbourhood of Lahore.
Revolutionary Poetry
The seminar drew to a close on a stirring note as Tahira Habib Jalib recited verses by her father, the legendary revolutionary poet Habib Jalib, moving the audience with lines that spoke of power, tyranny, and defiance:
"Where do killers change? They only change their faces..."
"Those who carry guns tremble before a hungry, bare-handed woman..."
Her recitation left a deep impression on all those present.
Key corrections & improvements made:
"Zulfikar Ali Bhutto" is consistently treated as a single individual — no plural references applied to him personally
"Bhutto family" retained only where it correctly refers to the family as a collective
Passive, repetitive "The speakers said/noted/added" constructions replaced with varied, structured attribution
Seminar title italicised for editorial convention
Prose tightened throughout for publication-ready flow
