Bilawal Bhutto Calls for Stronger Democracy on World Democracy Day

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said democracy is not merely a system of governance but the right of people to choose their representatives, shape their future and hold those in power accountable.
According to a press release issued by the Media Cell Bilawal House, Bilawal made the remarks in his message on World Democracy Day, observed on September 15.
He said the sacrifices of countless democratic forces and political workers had kept the flame of democracy alive in Pakistan despite repeated attempts to extinguish it.
“Democracy is the legacy of our martyrs and the promise we owe to future generations,” he said, paying tribute to Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for their efforts to empower the people and strengthen democratic institutions.
Bilawal said their struggle demonstrated that no force could permanently silence the voice of the people.
The PPP chairman said his party would continue its struggle for democracy, constitutional supremacy, social justice, equality and the rights of the people.
He called on all democratic forces to remain united against authoritarianism and safeguard the Constitution, Parliament and the people’s right to choose their representatives.
Bilawal said Pakistan’s history had witnessed repeated attempts by anti-democratic forces, which he said were often emboldened by external conspiracies, to derail the democratic process and deprive people of their fundamental rights.
“On this World Democracy Day, let us renew our pledge to protect the democratic inheritance of our martyrs. Let us ensure that the people’s mandate remains supreme and that democracy is never again made a casualty of power,” he concluded.
