CHANDIGARH/NEW DELHI, October 2 (Nazrana Times): The Congress has appointed former Olympian and Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh as President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), replacing outgoing state unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
According to a press release dated October 2 and issued under the name of AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, the appointment takes effect immediately. A report published today also says Pargat Singh has been named the new Punjab Congress president.
The press release states that the Congress appreciates the contribution of outgoing PPCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. It further says that the existing Working Presidents and the Chairpersons and Co-Chairpersons of various election-related committees in Punjab will continue in their positions.
Warring had submitted his resignation as PPCC president after more than four years at the helm of the state Congress. His resignation came as the party undertook an organisational reshuffle ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Pargat Singh is a former captain of the Indian national hockey team and an Olympian. He has previously served as Punjab’s Education and Sports Minister and currently represents the Jalandhar Cantonment constituency in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. He has also held organisational responsibilities within the Congress.
